Floyd Memorial Foundation hosts an art contest every fall for New Albany Floyd County elementary schools, specifically kindergarten through 4th grade to encourage creative thinking and creative expression in young children and challenge them to use their imagination to translate the art contest theme onto paper. Participating students are encouraged to submit artwork based on an annual theme, pre-determined by participating art teachers, and may use crayon, marker, colored pencil, paint or textiles for their creation. The 2019 Art Contest theme is “Taking Care of Me.”
Each grade at participating schools votes on one winner to represent their grade. The winning piece is submitted to the Foundation, is framed, numbered and put on display in the Foundation hallway at Baptist Health Floyd from mid-November through December 31. Patients, associates, hospital visitors and family and friends of the artists are invited to vote for their favorite art piece. Ballots are available at the Floyd Memorial Foundation office and at the Information Desk in the main lobby. Only one vote may be submitted per individual. All ballots must be turned in to the Foundation office at Baptist Health Floyd by December 31.
The winning art entry will be announced in early January. The artist with the most votes will be the recipient of $250. The artist that receives the second most number of votes will be the runner up and receive $100. The winner and runner-up will be recognized at the school assembly in January.
The Foundation invites the community-at-large to Baptist Health Floyd to view the artistic illustrations while on display to appreciate the importance of art in healing and our talented students from Floyd County.
